Welcome KappasKappa Kappa Gamma is a lifelong organization where we can come together to connect, support our numerous philanthropies, and have a community of women that have been through similar experiences. We have many fun events planned for the year ahead including helping the Delta Eta Chapter with recruitment and initiation, Halloween Bunco, a meteor shower, lantern festival, brunch, Founders Day to honor our pin recipients and the newest initiated kappas and wreath making. Stay up to date using our website and social media handles. Thank you for continuing to make time for Kappa in your life. Whether you are able to connect with us on social media, come to events, share a moment with another kappa or donate to one of our amazing philanthropies, we are so grateful to have you! I am honored to be serving another year as president and appreciate all that Kappa has done for me. I found Kappa after recently losing my mother and this support system has been nothing short of a miracle for me. I have grown from a shy, nervous girl to a confident leader and Kappa has helped my find my true voice and community. Whenever I take time to connect with a fellow Kappa, I feel like I belong and it brings me joy that we provide so many opportunities to give back. If you have any questions, suggestions or want to be more involved, please reach out! | WHO ARE WE? We are an organization of women thriving on tradition, friendship and involvement. The bonds of blue and blue extend beyond college to the years of careers and families. No matter where you are, Kappas are there. Our sisterhood lasts a lifetime and grows stronger with each passing year. CONVENTION 2024 RECAP Earlier this spring, Chelsea asked if I wanted to attend convention as the Salt Lake Alumnae Association voting delegate. The Delta Eta President, Emma Rohrer, and I coordinated our travel plans so we flew to Phoenix together and shared a hotel room. We arrived at the beautiful JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort and met up with our Wasatch Alumnae Association President, Savanna Maverick. We had a few hours of free time before dinner, so we headed to the pool. The resort had several gorgeous pools, a lazy river and three large water slides. After our afternoon at the pool, we got ready for dinner and the opening ceremony. It is so incredible to see the ballroom filled with over 650 kappa sisters with such vivacious energy. The hosts of the flag ceremony were such a hoot. They were announcing each area district and school like we were in a wresting arena. There are 130 active collegiate chapters and 250 active alumnae associations across the US and Canada. There was Minerva the Owl mascot walking around taking photos with everyone. It is such a wonderful site to see so many Kappa sisters continue to make this organization a priority in their life. It was a great kickoff to the weekend. On Friday morning, they held a memorial service for those Kappas we lost. It was so special to see everyone in their all white, really showing that Kappa is for a lifetime if you chose to let it. After the memorial service, they opened the first business meeting where we reviewed the fraternities ’financial reports, discussed and voted on amendments that were submitted to the amendment committee. Dinner theme that night was Rah Rah for the Blue and Blue college tailgating them with a dance party to wrap up the day. On Saturday, we finished up all our business and closed the formal meetings. For lunch we were organized to sit with chapters or alumnae associations similar to your size to brainstorm ideas and share best practices. After lunch we had 3 sisterhood events we could attend. We made cute succulent owls, stress relieving essential oils, and put together mental health kits for our philanthropy NAMI. They held a mock initiation for the chapter delegates to attend to ensure we are following proper ritual. The weekend was wrapped up with a special candlelight dinner, inauguration of new counsel and closed with the mystic circle. It is so special to be a part of this giant mystic circle and a part of a wonderful organization like Kappa. It is my hope that every sister gets to attend at least one convention in her life. It really renews your love for this Sisterhood and makes you want to continue the legacy for those that will come after us. Loyally, Gretchen Snyder-Hook Secretary SLCAA Pledge Class '08 |
